About the Company
Redwing DesignWorks was founded in 1996. We are based in Durham, North Carolina.
Our goal is to provide materials that are clearly written, pleasing to the eye, and easy to use. We can work with you to develop materials that meet your needs, either in print or online.

Redwing DesignWorks focuses on black-and-white printed materials, with occasional forays into color.
We also do web design, striving to create websites that are functional, straightforward, easy to use, consistent across many platforms, accessible, and attractive. We use Cascading Style Sheets and validated structural HTML.
What’s In A Name?
The company’s name springs from two sources. First, the traditional tune. This sprightly melody has been reappropriated for various folksongs, notably for Woody Guthrie’s “Union Maid.” It’s a fine tune for fiddle or hammered dulcimer, especially paired with another favorite, “Whistling Rufus.”
Second, the red-winged blackbird. This spirited inhabitant of North American wetlands spends the summers balancing on slender rushes, making announcements and flashing his red-and-gold epaulets... and dive-bombing anyone, regardless of size, who comes too close to his nest.
Redwing’s Roster
Lauri Brandenburg is the creative force behind Redwing DesignWorks, in moments stolen from her full-time work of supervising Redwing’s junior staff. In lives past, Lauri has been a trainer, Master Gardener Volunteer, landscaper, guest lecturer, avid musician, house-carpenter, and product development engineer. She finds her current career path surprising in some ways and not in others.
Jeff Brandenburg is our photography consultant, usability guru, Unix god, chef and childcare hero. Our twenty-year interns — John (preschool-age) and Joni (toddler) — entertain, enlighten, impede progress and provide comic relief.
